OKNa – From Proto-Slavic *okъno (“window”) – is a cultural center dedicated to providing artistic programming, residencies and educational projects while establishing a close cooperation between Eastern Europe and Portugal. Engaging with artists, researchers, and other cultural actors, the space celebrates CEE as an invaluable source of contemporary culture, researching and curating the New East.
Since 2017, our intercultural dialogue programs have sustained strategic partnerships enabling the movement of content as well as identifying a stable pool of thinkers, cultural managers and institutions that can support international cooperations between the territories.
Our plan is to become a leading voice on East European contemporary art and become a forum for critical conversations around art and issues of social and economic justice in the region. OKNa is supported by a network of contributors and a small dedicated staff headquartered in Porto, Portugal.
